Leadership moves at MBA: Director promoted to AVP of government housing finance

The Mortgage Bankers Association (MBA) has promoted Brendan Kelleher (pictured) to the role of associate vice president of government housing finance, the organization announced Thursday.

In this new position, Kelleher will be responsible for advancing MBA’s regulatory and advocacy efforts around government housing finance. His work will focus on shaping policy affecting government-sponsored enterprises and private-label markets, as well as managing relationships with agencies and stakeholders. He will also oversee the MBA Residential Board of Governors (RESBOG) and support various business segment communities across the association.

Kelleher joined MBA in 2022 as associate director of residential loan administration policy, and was later promoted to director in the same area. Before his time at the association, he held various leadership positions at Rocket Companies, most recently serving as director of public policy and government affairs, where he focused on mortgage servicing and external relations.

“For the past three years, Brendan has leveraged his industry experience to lead MBA’s advocacy efforts on loan servicing policy with insight, deftness, persistence and, most importantly, results,” Pete Mills, senior vice president of residential policy and strategic industry engagement, said in a statement.

“He has developed strong relationships and garnered the confidence of MBA members, which will be critically important in filling this important role at MBA. He is well-deserving of this promotion, and I am excited to see him excel.”

His promotion follows the recent appointment of Matthew Gallant as MBA’s new director of member relations. Gallant will manage the association’s residential member portfolio across the Northeast region, working to deepen engagement with leadership teams and identify opportunities to support their businesses.

Gallant brings over a decade of experience in mortgage banking. Most recently, he was a director of stakeholder engagement at New Hampshire Housing, and previously served as vice president, retail lending market manager at Bank of New Hampshire.

He has been an active MBA member, holding the role of New England Mortgage Bankers Conference Chair since 2022. Gallant also holds both the Certified Mortgage Professional (CMP) designation from the New Hampshire Mortgage Bankers and Brokers and the Certified Community Lender (CCL) designation from NAMMBA.
