Starting in the mortgage industry in 1994 while still in high school, Neusa Gillen quickly realized she had found her calling. After graduating three years later, Gillen began working full-time as a mortgage processor. Over the next 20 years, she participated in every single operations aspect of the mortgage process, from pulling credit reports to processing, underwriting, closing and post-closing, giving her a complete understanding of the loan process.

In 2012, Gillen was one of three individuals who co-founded Family First Funding. As chief compliance officer, she is connected to every one of the company’s departments. She has spearheaded Family First Funding’s quality control and employee training programs, and is the ‘mechanic’ behind all systems improvements and enhancements. “The part of my job that I enjoy most is proving those wrong who say a system or process cannot be improved upon,” she says.

Gillen is motivated by helping to create a compliant environment that creates a smooth experience not only for borrowers and referral partners, but also for the sales and operations teams at Family First Funding. “Being part of removing the stress people experience while making what is possibly the biggest financial decisions of their lives is the most rewarding feeling,” she says.
