JPMorgan attacked by Russian computer hackers

JPMorgan and at least one other bank have been attacked by Russian computer hackers in possible retaliation for U.S. sanctions against Russia

JPMorgan and at least one other bank have been attacked by Russian computer hackers, according to a Bloomberg report.

Sensitive data was compromised in the attack, and the FBI is investigating whether the attack was in retaliation for U.S.-sponsored sanctions against Russia, Bloomberg reported. Authorities are also investigating whether the attack was linked to recent electronic assaults on European banks.

“Companies of our size unfortunately experience cyber attacks nearly every day,” a JPMorgan spokesperson said in a statement. “We have multiple layers of defense to counteract any threats and constantly monitor fraud levels.”

The sophistication of the attack could suggest a government link, Bloomberg reported.
