Ameris Bank launches $20K home down payment assistance program

Ameris Bank has unveiled a down payment grant program to assist prospective homebuyers in Jacksonville, Fla.

This Ameris Choice program offers up to $20,000 to eligible applicants for purchasing or refinancing a home, marking a significant step in its ongoing efforts to enhance homeownership opportunities in the region.

The bank said Ameris Choice is an extension of its diverse home-buying support initiatives, allowing qualifying borrowers considerable flexibility in using their assistance funds. It is accessible to individuals aiming to purchase or refinance a primary residence within majority Black and Hispanic census tracts in Jacksonville. Additionally, residents of these tracts can also use the program for home purchases in Baker, Clay, Duval, or St. Johns counties.

The funds from the program can be applied as a combination of down payment assistance, closing cost assistance or permanent rate buydown.
