Sagent taps former Stearns exec as CTO

Mortgage fintech company Sagent has tapped former Stearns Lending executive as part of a series of C-suite hires by CEO Dan Sogorka.

Sagent has appointed Uday Devalla as chief technology officer. Before joining Sagent, Devalla was chief information officer of Stearns Lending, where he led digital transformation in the firm’s US mortgage originations business unit.

In a statement, Sagent said that the move accelerates its vision to improve the “loan servicing engagement and consumer experience from the homeowner perspective.”

“If mortgage originators are the finders of new customers, servicers must be the keepers of those customers,” Sogorka said. “In addition to being the industry’s most modern servicing system of record, Sagent powers lifetime customer engagement and retention for servicers. And Uday is a pioneer of building and running these complex systems at scale.”

During his 20 years in the housing industry, Devalla has held several technology leadership roles at top mortgage firms and banks, including Countrywide Mortgage Lenders and Bank of America.

“The mortgage servicing tech stack isn’t just a system of record to keep lenders efficient, profitable, and compliant,” Devalla said. “It also must be the lifetime customer engagement and retention platform for customers, providing omnichannel advice and care during good and challenging times.”
