Freddie Mac elevates industry stalwart to head multifamily underwriting

Freddie Mac Multifamily has announced that it has promoted Ian Ouwerkerk (pictured) to senior vice president of underwriting and credit.

Ouwerkerk has served as interim senior vice president of underwriting and credit since the first quarter of 2022. In this role, he works with Freddie’s production and sales teams to ensure the quality of multifamily loans. Ouwerkerk also oversees large regional pool transactions across the country, balancing credit risk management and finding innovative solutions for sponsors and lenders.

“Ian is a strong leader with a proven track record implementing strategic, forward-thinking solutions partnering with our Optigo lenders and driving business results,” said Kevin Palmer, head of multifamily at Freddie Mac. “He has been a vital part of our success this year while serving as the interim senior vice president of underwriting and credit, and I look forward to seeing how he continues to develop and strengthen the team.”

Ouwerkerk joined Freddie Mac in 2008 and has held various positions in multifamily underwriting, including senior director of Southeast region underwriting and vice president of multifamily underwriting. Before Freddie, he was a commercial real estate broker at Marcus & Millichap.
