Big shoes to fill for 2020 Originator of the Year

Nominations are open for 2020 Power Originator Awards and past Originator of the Year award winner Shant Banosian talks about the impact of winning the title

Big shoes to fill for 2020 Originator of the Year

Shant Banosian is no stranger to the limelight in the mortgage world. The top loan originator totaled over $536 million in volume, closing over 1,200 loans in 2018 with Guaranteed Rate. This put him at the top, ranking #1 in the country by dollar volume. He also surpassed his 2017 totals by $75 million, showing he isn’t planning on slowing down any time soon.

So, it’s no surprise that Banosian also came out on top in the Originator of the Year category at the 2019 Power Originator Summit Awards.

“Being named ‘Originator of the Year’ was an incredible acknowledgment of my dedication to helping customers find their dream homes,” said Banosian.

The Originator of the Year award is presented to an originator who had an outstanding year in the industry. This could be demonstrated with an increase in loan volume, more loans closed, the opening of a new branch or making a big impact in the community.

“I’ve built my success on creating and maintaining strong relationships and always putting my clients first. Being recognized for these accomplishments has given me the platform to further expand my reach to customers and referral partners within my community, as well as share my story in the hopes of inspiring others,” he added.

Nominations are now open for the 2020 Power Originator Awards.

For Originator of the Year, loan volume and loans closed aside, judges will also be looking at how many years the nominee has had in the industry, any professional recognition and accolades and other personal achievements.

There are also three other categories at this year’s event.

The Woman of Distinction award is for any strong female who’s risen to the top of the mortgage industry due to her exceptional personal and professional achievements this year. This female trailblazer may have spearheaded a business initiative, brought new business to the company or had some innovative ideas that were implemented. Any professional accomplishments like these will be considered in the judging process. She would also have demonstrated promotion, influence and championing of women within the mortgage industry. Any leadership of professional associations or other relevant accolades will also be looked at.

If there’s a vibrant, young player in the industry that’s also had a brilliant 2019, the Young Gun of the Year Award could be for them. This award requires a bit of experience; at least three years in the industry, and you’ve got to be 35 years old or under. The Young Gun of the Year award is meant to celebrate up and coming talent in the industry, taking into consideration loan volume and loans closed, and any personal and professional achievements.

Finally, the best new technology award is handed out to the individual or organization that’s implemented the most outstanding and innovative digital platform for mortgage professionals. Judges will look at how many users the technology had this year, the issue the organization faced that the technology was able to solve, whether the technology increased sales, and any recognition it received.

The deadline to apply is February 13, 2020 and winners will be revealed at the Power Originator Summit at the Anaheim Convention Centre on March 26, 2020.
