"Neighborhood regret" is a thing and a third of relocators have it

A new survey says that more than a third of people who have recently relocated would have chosen a home in a different neighborhood.

The survey by Wakefield Research was done by Trulia to coincide with the recent launch of its online neighborhood resource Trulia Neighborhoods.

But while Trulia’s site aims to be the go-to place for information, the insights highlight the potential for real estate agents to become the trusted source of neighborhood information in their local operating areas.

City dwellers are more likely than those in rural or suburban communities to say that if they were to make the move again they would have chosen another neighborhood (46% vs. 31% rural, 30% suburban).

Deciding factors
The largest share (48%) of respondents chose their neighborhood for its ‘vibe’ while crime rates and commute times were significant factors for 37%.

Among the issues homebuyers and renters experience that lead to unhappiness include; lack of social activity (28%), street noise (21%), frequent traffic (16%) and lack of public transportation (16%).

The survey discovered that almost three quarters of buyers and renters did not research police reports before their move and almost half didn’t visit the neighborhood at night.
