Trump to nominate former FHA head to return to post – report
President Donald Trump is reportedly set to nominate a former Federal Housing Administration commissioner to head up the agency for a second time.

According to a Politico report, Trump is looking to tap Collingwood Group co-founder and partner Brian Montgomery as FHA commissioner. Montgomery held the position during the administration of former President George W. Bush, and continued to serve there for the first few months of the Obama administration.

Montgomery is a noted critic of mortgage regulation, according to Politico. He’s said that “excessive enforcement” against mortgage lenders has kept homeownership out of reach for many Americans.

In addition to his role as FHA commissioner, Martin has served in many other positions in both the public and private sector, according to a HousingWire report. He was acting HUD secretary in the Obama administration prior to the confirmation of Shaun Donovan. He also served as the HUD assistant secretary for housing and a board member on the Federal Housing Finance Board, the Housing and Economic Recovery Act of 2008 Oversight Board, and the NeighborWorks America Board.

Following the destruction of the space shuttle Columbia in 2003, Montgomery headed a White House working group that monitored the investigation of the accident. He was awarded the NASA Exceptional Service Medal for his work on the group.
