Which US housing markets are the most affordable for veterans?

US veterans seeking the most affordable cities to live in should head for the Lone Star State.

An analysis of Dept. of Veterans Affairs data by Veterans United Home Loans shows that six of the top 10 most affordable cities for veterans are in Texas, including all of the top 5.

The study is based on economic, wellness, and affordability using 4 relevant variables (2018-2019 Q3 Cost of Living Index, Veteran unemployment rate, 5-year rate of job growth, and median Veteran income) in the 100 most populated cities in the United States.

It found that the 10 most affordable cities for veterans to live are:

  1. Laredo, TX
  2. Corpus Christi, TX
  3. Lubbock, TX
  4. El Paso, TX
  5. San Antonio, TX
  6. Oklahoma City, OK
  7. Arlington/Fort Worth, TX
  8. Columbus, OH
  9. Tulsa, OK
  10. Jacksonville, FL

United Veterans Home Loans is a Missouri-based full-service national lender. It financed more than $12.8 billion in loans in Fiscal Year 2019 and should benefit from the new rules introduced at the start of 2020 that removes VA loan limits for Veterans with their full VA loan entitlement.
