MBA elects new advocacy leads

The Mortgage Bankers Association (MBA) has announced leadership appointments for its key advocacy organizations.

Nanci Weissgold has been appointed as chair of the MBA Political Action Committee (MORPAC), and William (Bill) Nelson has been named as chairman of the Mortgage Action Alliance (MAA) for the 2025-2026 election cycle.

Who is Nanci Weissgold?

Alston and Bird law firm partner and co-chair under Financial Services Group, Weissgold replaces Owen Lee, CEO of Success Mortgage Partners, Inc.

She has been a regular MORPAC contributor who serves as co-chair for MBA's Legal Issues and Regulatory Compliance Committee. She was likewise a recipient of MBA's Schumacher-Bolduc Award in 2024.

Laura Escobar, chair and president of MBA Lennar Mortgage for 2025, welcomed Weissgold’s appointment.

“Nanci is an acknowledged financial services and housing policy expert who has been a steadfast supporter of MORPAC and of policies that strengthen our industry," she said.

Who is William Nelson?

Nelson is executive vice president of secondary and mortgage operations at Standard Mortgage Corporation, bringing with him 23 years of experience. He previously worked for Fannie Mae, where he helped launch the DUS Bond Brokerage Business to support liquidity in the Multifamily MBS Market.

He follows Eric Gates, former COO of Luminate Home Loans, Inc.

Expressing her confidence in Nelson's appointment, Escobar shared: "Bill has been a dedicated and passionate supporter of MBA's advocacy initiatives and programs, including MORPAC, and his example as an engaged MBA member has already helped to advance MAA's grassroots efforts.”

Both appointments were made by Escobar, along with Christine Chandler who serves at the MBA 2025 chair-elect and executive vice president, chief credit officer and chief operating officer with M&T Realty Capital Corporation.
