LoanDepot names COO for enterprise mortgage operations

LoanDepot has appointed Tammy Richards as COO for its enterprise mortgage operations.

In her new role, Richards will oversee a team of about 1,600 members and will be responsible for growing and refining loan production. She will also manage underwriting, processing, credit policy, funding and closing processes, and quality controls. As part of her appointment, Richards also joins loanDepot’s executive team.

Richards brings more than 30 years of experience to the role. She served at Caliber Home Loans prior to joining loanDepot. Earlier in her career, Richards served in senior roles at Wells Fargo and Bank of America.

"Leaders like Tammy who truly understand how to blend technology and high-touch service are rare in the mortgage industry," loanDepot COO Jeff Walsh said. "She gets our vision of expanding to meet customer needs with new offerings beyond mortgage, and is the best person to drive tech-enabled process improvement."

Richards will report to Walsh and will be based in the company’s Southern California headquarters. She will also collaborate with the more than 450 developers and engineers of the company’s recently launched mello Innovation Lab to improve the loan process.

"As I help our industry move into the modern digital era, there is only one team I wanted to join," Richards said. "LoanDepot—with its current positioning and recent launch of sister company mello Home to expand services for customers—is the best place to bring my expertise, and I'm thrilled to join the leading fintech team."
