Which BDMs achieve the highest satisfaction score among brokers?

Business development managers (BDMs) of specialist lenders InterBay and Landbay have secured the highest satisfaction ratings from brokers, according to research from financial services review site Smart Money People.

The two lenders’ BDMs were given a score of 94% while those of Legal & General Home Finance also performed well, garnering a satisfaction rating of 93.7%.

Skipton Building Society’s BDMs scored 90.7%, while those of Metro Bank achieved a satisfaction rating of 90.4%.

The research, however, also uncovered a notable gap between the satisfaction levels of the abovementioned lenders and the rest of the market, with five lenders scoring below 70%.

The findings were part of Smart Money People’s H2 2023 Mortgage Lender Benchmark, which delves into mortgage broker opinions on UK mortgage lenders for the latter half of 2023. The latest bi-annual independent research – the eleventh edition of the Mortgage Lender Benchmark – scrutinises the mortgage industry’s landscape based on brokers’ perspectives.

“As we reported in December, brokers clearly highly value the role of the BDM, and so congratulations to InterBay and Landbay and the others mentioned for delivering an excellent field presence,” Jess Rushton (pictured), head of business development at Smart Money People, said.

“It’s also encouraging that the highest scoring lenders operate in a wide range of lending sectors (banks, buy-to-let, equity release and specialist lending) which demonstrates the delivery of an exemplary BDM team is not predicated necessarily by budgets, size, or specialism.”

Commenting on the news, Rob Stanton, sales and distribution director at Landbay, said they were delighted that their BDM team have ranked highly in the Smart Money People survey.

“The results are a testament to the dedication of our BDMs, who go above and beyond to support and educate our introducer partners,” Stanton added. “Their success also reflects the tremendous backing they receive from the rest of the business. We would also like to thank the introducers who ranked us highly.”

Adrian Moloney, group intermediary director at OSB Group – which includes InterBay, also thanked all brokers who took the time to share their feedback in the survey.

“I’m extremely proud that our InterBay sales team, under the leadership of Marc Callaghan, has been recognised for their hard work and customer first approach, and for that commitment to be independently recognised by brokers is extremely gratifying,” Moloney commented.
