Lloyds announces head of housing's retirement

The Lloyds Banking Group has announced that its head of housing and sustainability, Andy Mason (pictured), will retire on April 5, 2024.

Having dedicated 30 years to the banking group, Mason’s journey began as a financial advisor in its Jarrow branch. His career trajectory within the group involved stints in investments, pensions, and protection, spanning roles in advice, distribution, relationship, and product development.

He then shifted to the mortgage sector, assuming the position of head of intermediary products. In 2020, he moved to the role of head of housing and sustainability.

During his tenure, Halifax maintained its position in the new build mortgage market. Notably, his focus on sustainability led to Halifax’s active involvement in education and engagement initiatives within the sector.

His contributions extended beyond business, aligning with the group’s societal housing ambitions. In 2022, he spearheaded the formation of the Lloyds Banking Group Housing Senate, and more recently, established the Shared Ownership Council.

The announcement of Mason’s retirement marks the beginning of the search for his successor within the Lloyds Banking Group – the UK’s largest mortgage lender.

“On behalf of Lloyds Banking Group, I would like to thank Andy for his dedication and leadership, and I wish him well in this next phase of life,” Esther Dijkstra, intermediaries managing director at Lloyds Banking Group, remarked.

Mason, for his part, said he had a very enjoyable career with the banking group, working with colleagues and making many friends in the industry.

“I look forward to spending more time with my family, but I don’t doubt my naturally curious mind will open the door to new adventures sometime in the future,” he added.
