Buckinghamshire Building Society has hired Gerard O’Keeffe as chief executive to replace the outgoing Andrew Craddock.

O’Keeffe (pictured) has over 30 years’ experience in financial services, including 16 years at Allied Irish Bank in the UK. He was latterly head of Allied Irish Bank (GB), including the retail, commercial and corporate banks.

Craddock is leaving to become Darlington Building Society chief executive after four years at Buckinghamshire.

Robin Bailey, chairman of the Buckinghamshire Building Society, said: “Andrew has been a remarkable leader, developing the Bucks into a modern, successful and financially secure business and at the same time keeping our mutual ethos of putting our members at the forefront of what we do.

“We are extremely grateful for his efforts and the board and I wish Andrew all the best in his new role at the Darlington.”

He added: “Gerard is joining us at an exciting time for the Society. We believe he will bring a new perspective to our business, and with his wealth of experience he and the team will take the Society to the next phase of its growth.”

O’Keeffe's appointment is subject to regulatory approval.
