LMG has announced a “mo-mentous” achievement, with its newest broker community, Best Interest Mates, raising $57,000 for Movember.

Movember is a men’s health charity dedicated to fundraising for mental health and suicide prevention, as well as awareness and support for prostate cancer and testicular cancer. Each November, participants grow moustaches as a symbolic gesture to generate funds for Movember’s initiatives.

Best Interest Mates’ fundraising initiative gained momentum throughout the month, culminating in a total of $28,500 at LMG’s Growth Summit, with LMG Executive Chairman Sam White celebrating the achievement by confirming the aggregator’s commitment to matching the funds raised by its brokers.

Leigh Tsoumerkas (pictured above left), president of Best Interest Mates, expressed delight over the “inspiring” response and generosity from businesses to the community’s inaugural Movember fundraising effort, as he emphasised that Best Interest Mates is not just about compliance but fostering connections beyond work.

“Best Interest Mates isn’t just about exercise,” Tsoumerkas said. “It’s about sitting down, having a coffee, talking about life and how everyone is coping away from work. We’re certainly not talking about best interest (duty) compliance.”

White praised Best Interest Mates’ initiative, highlighting the significance of addressing men’s mental health issues.

“Men’s mental health is a major issue in society and our industry is certainly not immune,” he said. “I’ve been inspired by how the Best Interest Mates community has come together in such a short time and excited at what this community will do for brokers and the wider cause going forward.”

The final donation amount was announced during the Best Interest Mates breakfast at the LMG Growth Summit. The event featured insights from Melbourne Football Club coach Simon Goodwin, who shared his leadership and culture-building strategies that transformed the Demons into the 2021 AFL Premiers after 57 years without a premiership.

Launched in August, Best Interest Mates is a forum designed to give brokers an opportunity to reflect on their mental health and the wellbeing of their peers, whilst working on their fitness. The initiative complements LMG’s “Leading Ladies of Loan Market” community, an established peer support group for women in the industry.
