Young Brits least likely to have contents insurance

For the whole of the UK 19% forsake contents insurance, while just 32% of Londoners are covered, compared to 84% in the East of England and 83% in Scotland.

Just 38% with home contents insurance said they knew exactly what was covered in their plan; 33% of women said they knew compared to 44% of men.

Nikki Sellers, head of home insurance at esure, said: “The survey results certainly showed some interesting age group and regional variations to the importance people place on home contents insurance.”

“With just over a third of people knowing exactly what was covered in their policy, it would seem they don’t pay attention to their home contents insurance policy as much as they should. People are putting their possessions at risk if they take enough notice of their insurance policy and what it covers.”

The younger generation are most in tune with updating their policy, as 31% of 18-34 year-olds increased their level of cover in the last two years compared to just 19% of 35-54 year-olds.
