Yorkshire appoints director

Philip, aged 60, will join the Board on 1 June 2007 following his retirement as a Partner at Deloitte & Touche LLP where he is head of audit quality & risk management.

During his 30 years with Deloitte, Philip has specialised in providing advisory and assurance services to large corporate clients. He has considerable experience of financial services through leading some major investigations in the sector.

Since 2003 Philip has headed the Quality and Risk Management division for the UK Audit practice of Deloitte where he has been responsible for all matters relating to quality, risk management and regulation. This role has necessitated a close involvement in the requirements of IFRS and the introduction of International Audit Standards. Philip is also a member of the executive of the European Federation of Accountants and was appointed chairman of their influential Audit Working Party.

Philip is married with two grown-up children and lives in Stockport.

Ed Anderson, chairman of Yorkshire Building Society, said: “I am delighted to announce the appointment of Philip Johnson as a non-executive director. I am confident that his wealth of experience gained from his various roles within Deloitte will be invaluable to the Board and to the Audit Committee and I look forward to working with him.”
