UK-based IFA raises money for African orphans

$10,000 has been secured from the Million Dollar Round Table, a global organisation for the top financial advisors in the world, for a football-inspired movement that sees hundreds of UK volunteers help needy children worldwide.

Alexandra Financial Management, which is a member of TenetConnect and an elite member of MDRT, is heavily involved with the north east established Lionsraw movement. This harnesses the passion of football fans, taking them to World Cup events and European championships whilst doing charitable work during their stay.

In 2010 Lionsraw took over 150 fans to the World Cup and at the same time built an orphanage, sports changing rooms in a children’s village, pre school, and toilet blocks with over 50 toilets and ran football schooling for thousands of African children.

Neil Flint, managing director of Alexandra's Financial Management, visited South Africa prior to the event to indentify a project that his company could part sponsor and decided to build the orphanage.

After buying the land and hiring the excavators to level the land the orphanage was built by 17 Lionsraw members in just 14 days.

Commenting, Neil Flint said. “The MDRT has strict criteria for its giving foundation and I am truly delighted to have obtained this generous grant at the first attempt.

“This grant will help us to build new toilets for the 200 pupils of the school. At present the school has septic tanks that are not fit to use which is just not safe or acceptable.”

Once the toilets are built Lionsraw intends to build further classrooms to allow more children to be safely educated in the school.

Neil continued, “Every child deserves to have a happy childhood and have a chance in life. We want to show these orphaned children that love comes in many forms and can come from the most unlikely sources.”
