Two building societies named in top 10 businesses to work for

Coventry Building Society andSkipton Building Society have received recognition as coming second and eighth respectively in The Sunday Times 25 Best Big Companies to Work For list.

The result comes following a survey compiled by the Best Companies which was answered by colleagues with the results generating a score that then decides the overall placement in the list and provides a benchmark for success.

In addition to their placement as one of the Best Big Companies to Work For, Skipton has received a two star accreditation from Best Companies.

This accolade represents the second-highest standard of workplace engagement and represents organisations striving for the best.

David Cutter, chief executive of Skipton Building Society, said: “Wow! What an achievement. I am incredibly proud that we have been recognised as one of the top 10 big companies in the UK.

“To be recognised against 24 of the UK's largest, most respected and recognisable companies is a huge accolade for us and gives us a good benchmark of where we are compared to these organisations to help us continue to make Skipton a great place to work.

“This achievement really emphasises our commitment to developing our people and we will continue to look at new and exciting ways to build on our colleague engagement, ensuring each and every colleague strives to be their best.”

Skipton also won an additional Special Award for Learning and Development.

Jonathan Austin, founder of Best Companies, added: “I would like to congratulate Skipton Building Society on achieving a Two Star Accreditation and being named as one of the UK’s Best Companies to Work for.

"Best Companies has been acknowledging excellence in the workplace since 2006 when we launched our Michelin style accreditation standard.

"We are proud to work with organisations like Skipton Building Society who focus on their people and as such have been rewarded with an engaged workforce who tell us that they’re a best company to work for.”

Coventry Building Society reached number two on the list of Best Big Companies to work for.

The UK’s second largest building society has more than 2,500 employees across the UK.

Lucy Becque, HR director at Coventry Building Society, said: “We are thrilled to be named one of the very best companies to work for.

"As these awards are based on a survey of all employees, there’s no better measure of how great it is to work for Coventry Building Society.

“We’ve seen that when our people enjoy what they do, they consistently deliver great results and it’s no coincidence that our customer service is second to none.

“Sharing a common set of values with your colleagues and your employer can be a powerful bond. We are focused on doing the right thing for our two million members - that strikes a chord with people who work here and with people who want to work here… it’s quite popular with our members too!”
