Tesco Bank names interim chair

Tesco Bank has appointed Jacqui Ferguson (pictured) as interim chair of its board with immediate effect.

Ferguson was a non-executive director, chair, and chief executive in the technology industry with over 30 years of experience. She was formerly CEO of Hewlett Packard Enterprise Services UK and MEA.

She joined the board of Tesco Bank in April 2018. She has served as Tesco Bank’s senior independent non-executive director since September 2021 and will be replaced in this role on an interim basis by Robert Endersby.

“Tesco Bank serves over five million customers through its banking and insurance products, and delivers a range of money services in Tesco stores and online,” Ferguson stated in a post announcing her appointment. “I look forward to working with the board, and our executive team, to continue growing our business and meeting the needs of our customers.”

Tesco Bank will now begin a search process for a permanent chair.

Former Tesco chair heads to Barclays

Ferguson replaces John Kingman who has stepped down from the board, ahead of his appointment to the board of Barclays PLC as non-executive director. Kingman will also replace Crawford Gillies as chair of Barclays Bank UK PLC on June 1, 2023.

Along with Kingman, Marc Moses is also joining Barclays as non-executive director, with both Mike Ashley and Gillies retiring from these posts in May.

Barclays also announced that Julia Wilson would replace Ashley as chair of the audit committee and would join the board of Barclays Bank UK from April 1.

Further changes at Tesco

Meanwhile, the Edinburgh-headquartered bank has also appointed Prasanna Gopalakrishnan as non-executive director.

Gopalakrishnan is the group chief technology officer of Sky Group, a European media and entertainment company, where she is responsible for setting the technology vision, objectives, and operating model.

Ferguson said she was pleased to welcome Gopalakrishnan to the Tesco Bank board.

“Her experience is a valuable addition to our business, in particular, her successful delivery of complex technology and digital transformation, and her advocacy for diversity and inclusion throughout her career,” she added.
