Tenet beats Sir Alan to the 1st apprentice

Sir Alan is also the front man for the Government’s apprenticeship programme which encourages work based training and learning. Tenet is very proud to announce that Dawn Abbot from network member Abbey Lane Associates Ltd in Sheffield has become the UK’s first person to complete the Mortgage Advice Apprenticeship.

Tenet introduced two apprenticeship programmes last year for both professional mortgage and investment advisers with the assistance of the National Skills Academy for Financial Services (NSAFS). A further thirty apprentices have signed up to the programmes which bring new advisers into the business. Tenet runs the programmes in partnership with Derby based Babington Business College and has additionally obtained Government funding for work based training, significantly reducing the financial impact on the adviser firm.

Apprentices have to complete their professional qualifications, attend specialist tuition at Tenet’s training department in Leeds and then gain evidence of the learning being transferred to their actual work via observations and assessments.

Keith Richards, Tenet Group’s distribution and development director comments: “This initiative forms part of our wider Professional Development Programme, which provides the structure and support required for everyone from industry new entrants to experienced competent professionals. Providing effective entry routes and career development to attract talented new blood is vital for the long term success of the advice sector. We are very pleased with the overall programme and proud of Dawn’s achievement.”

Linda Schofield, regional director of NSAFS Yorkshire & Humber comments: “Firstly this is a wonderful achievement by Dawn and she is to be congratulated on her success. Secondly this shows the effectiveness of the partnership that the NSAFS brings to the sector by putting together employers, providers and education, so they combine to provide the best possible experience for the candidates.”

The scheme is being made more widely available to all of Tenet’s 5,500 members and will also be offered to non Tenet firms on request.
