Spain not just for the old

When it comes to Britons wanting to live overseas in Spain, almost two thirds of people (65 per cent) who would most like to live in Spain were under the age of 55 with just 22 per cent over the age of 65 years.

Age Of Person / Percentage Of People

Under 25 / 12 per cent

Over 25 to 34 years old / 16 per cent

Over 35 to 44 years old / 20 per cent

Over 45 to 54 years old / 17 per cent

55 to 65 years old / 13 per cent

65 years and over / 22 per cent

In addition, more women (57 per cent) than men (43 per cent) would most like to live in Spain and one in ten (10 per cent) of all those wanting to live there were from the South East, followed by North West and London at 9 per cent.

Ian Smith, head of European operations at Halifax, said: "It has long been assumed that only retirees are buying property in Spain, but this is far from the case, as it is also a popular location amongst younger age groups."
