Societyof Mortgage Professionals an instant hit, says the CII

The CII announced the creation of the Society in September to form part of an ongoing drive to raise professional standards across the financial services industry.

Designed to be a centre of technical excellence and good practice, linking the CII’s existing mortgage related examinations and the online competency tool mortgage ASSESS, the Society will provide members with additional technical support through seminars, workshops and guidance notes.

Richard Fox,former compliance director at MCCB,became the Society’s chief executivetoday. He said, “I am delighted with this level of interest. It shows the real desire of practitioners to raise standards of professionalism within the sector and, as we approach ‘M’ Day, provides an excellent base from which I expect the Society to substantially grow.

“We will be announcing the designations that qualified members will be able to apply for next month. This will enable them to demonstrate their professional commitment to the consumer and is a vital part of the efforts to raise public perception of the sector.”

The Society is planning a marketing campaign in the middle of November with full details of the membership options and initial programme of events that will be available. In the meantime practitioners can continue to register via the website at www.cii.co.uk/faculties.

Once established, the Society will support individuals at all stages of their professional development, and provide a wide range of membership benefits including a quarterly newsletter, seminars, dedicated website and access to CII membership services including the online Information Services facility.
