Skipton appoints non-executive director

Peter started his career in the insurance and financial services industry when he joined General Accident (now part of the Aviva Group) in 1968. He spent his career building and growing distribution, rising to sales and marketing director of Norwich Union Life. During this period Peter developed particularly strong links with the building society sector.

During the last 10 years, Peter played a leading role in the growth of the Aviva Group, through the successful mergers of General Accident, Commercial Union and Norwich Union and was deputy chairman of the successful joint venture with the Royal Bank of Scotland.

Within the wider financial services market, Peter was elected president of the Chartered Insurance Institute for 2005/6, was chairman of the Association of British Insurers’ (ABI) distribution committee and a member of the ABI management committee.

Having retired from Norwich Union in 2006, Peter joined the board of Just Retirement Plc, a life assurance company specialising in retirement provision and is also a member of the Accenture insurance advisory board.

Commenting on his appointment, Peter said: “I am delighted to be joining the board of such a successful and diverse organisation during a period of exciting change for the business and the industry. I look forward to making a contribution to the continued success of Skipton.”

John Rawlings, Skipton’s chairman, added: “Peter has an outstanding track record in growing and acquiring businesses within the highly competitive financial services sector – something which matches perfectly with Skipton’s own strategy. His authority on the life and pensions market will also be extremely valuable and further strengthen the knowledge of the board.”
