Skills Academy launches in the West Midlands

The launch was attended by employers and students from Birmingham Metropolitan College and Babington Business College and hosted by Craig Errington, chairman of the NSAFS' West Midlands Board and chief executive of the Birmingham-based Wesleyan Group. Paul Lewis, BBC Radio 4, Money Box presenter, delivered the keynote address.

Financial Services is a key sector within the West Midlands, employing 7% of people in the region. NSAFS is working with employers to provide a knowledgeable and supportive service that supports employers meet their skills and training requirements.

Sylvia Perrins, CEO of the NSAFS, comments: "We are committed to working with and serving the needs of young people and employers in the West Midlands. Our focus is on supporting businesses, helping them meet the evolving skills requirements needed in the financial services sector, and in developing the new talent they will need, to help them grow and support the local economy.”

Since launch in May 2007, the NSAFS network has grown from having four to over 20 training providers that are now located in seven regions in England.
