Service is more important than rate

The Future 500 quarterly survey asked mortgage brokers to declare the factors that were most important when dealing with a lender. The results were as follows:

Service 48%

Individual Underwriting 30%

Headline Mortgage Rate 19%

Online Applications 3%

Commenting on the service, Brian Pitt, sales and marketing director at Future, commented, “This is yet another vindication of the professional development of the mortgage market. We have always believed that service is a crucial element in helping professional advisers to add value to their clients and these results bear this out. Clients buy houses not mortgages and superior service in getting loan approval is essential in our market.

“I was also delighted to see individual underwriting come second in the list as we have always maintained that in the non-standard market an individual approach is essential in ensuring sensible loan decisions. Although headline rates will always factor in the advice process, it seems clear that brokers are demonstrating a more rounded advice strategy.”
