Santander cycles sponsors Movember

Santander Cycles, London’s cycle hire scheme, is supporting Movember – the global charity raising funds and awareness of men’s health.

For the first time, 1,000 Santander Cycles will join the millions of men around the world who grow for Movember.

At 18 inches wide, the cycle Mos are slightly larger than a conventional moustache. As well as looking dapper they will help raise funds for the Movember Foundation.

Pictures of one of the 200 limited edition gold moustaches will each earn a donation of £3.

Spot prizes, including Movember baseball caps signed by Rory McIllroy and free hire codes, will be awarded to participants throughout the month. Winners will be chosen at random from all photographs submitted.

Santander Cycles’ support reflects the Movember Foundation’s new initiative for 2015 – the MOVE challenge in which men and women are encouraged to make 30 MOVEs in 30 days - whether working out, walking, or building cycling into their regular daily routine.

Men and women sign up at Movember.com to Grow, Give or MOVE for the 30 days of November.

Keith Moor, chief marketing officer of Santander, said: “We hope people will have a bit of fun spotting the moustaches and sharing their pictures, whilst at the same time raising funds and awareness for Movember.

“We’re encouraging everyone on the streets of London to look out for the Santander Cycles sporting a #MoCycle, share their photos and help raise funds for this great cause.”

Laura Mair for Movember says: “This is a fantastic initiative which really brings to life what we are trying to achieve with our MOVE challenge and we are very grateful to Santander and TfL for their support.

“Being active is one of the best things you can do for your health, and building even just a short cycle ride into your daily activity will help.

“We hope that seeing a Santander Cycle with a Mo will prompt people to think what activity they could add to their day, and of course, to share on social media to raise funds.”

Mayor of London Boris Johnson MP said: “It’s fantastic to see some of our Santander Cycles following the example of millions of men around the world by sprouting a Mo for Movember.

“I am sure Londoners will hunt high and low to get hold of one of these bikes, and help raise money for this great cause.”
