Principality wins business award

Acknowledged by The Chancellor of the Exchequer as “the UK’s business Oscars", The National Business Awards sponsored by Orange recognise and reward excellence, innovation and success. They are open to companies of all sizes and from any sector.

Judges for the Business of the Year Award were looking for an outstanding organisation that best demonstrated exceptional financial returns, strong growth and innovation strategies, plus market leadership in its sector. Other finalists in the category were Admiral Group plc, The Global travel Group and Cramer. Principality now advances as a finalist in The National Business Awards programme in London in November.

The society’s 2004 annual results showed a new record as assets increased by £473.3 million to £4,051.5 million. Gross mortgage lending increased by 11% and members’ savings exceeded £3 billion for the first time in the society’s history. “Trusted to make the most of our members’ money” is the proposition to customers as the Principality aims to be “the sector’s best building society”.

“The quality of entries in the 2005 Regional Finals of The National Business Awards has been outstanding,” said Adrian Tripp, Chief Executive of the Awards. “Across the five regional programmes this year, combined sales revenue of all entrants represented over £30 billion. The same group employs 226,000 individuals helping to generate £7 billion in profit”.

Peter Griffiths, Chief Executive of Principality, said: “We are very proud of being awarded with this honour and to fly the flag for Welsh business. This is a fantastic achievement and a well-deserved recognition of what the staff members at Principality have accomplished over the past few years. I am confident this business will continue to go from strength to strength.”

Dick Tyler, managing partner of CMS Cameron McKenna, said of the Award: “As a major international law firm, CMS Cameron McKenna plays an important role in helping businesses succeed. We're eager to celebrate success stories in British business and are proud to sponsor the Business of the Year Award.”
