New route to Certified Financial Planner assessment

The CFP licence is an advanced qualification which tests a candidate's ability to apply their knowledge and skills in order to produce a comprehensive financial plan built around a client case study.

To date, CFP candidates have been able to choose between the traditional home study route or a one week intensive Fast Track Course run by the IFP. The new Focused Assessment Programme complements that existing structure as it combines the best aspects of both. It is broken down into three key areas which are spread out over a period of time to allow maximum flexibility for candidates:

  • Day 1 - Principles and Practice of Financial Planning Workshop
  • Day 2 - CFP Preparation Day Workshop
  • Day 3 and 4 - CFP Assessment Session
The inclusion of structured workshops help candidates examine the process of creating a comprehensive financial plan to the level required, as well as the mandatory standards which are required to be met for a successful submission to the assessors.

The new programme also gives candidates time in between the workshops to practice their Financial Planning skills. They can also carry out the background preparation for their plan so that they are ideally prepared to create and submit a well documented and researched plan for assessment, and to have the best possible chance of success.
