New packager aims to fill service gap

The Fareham, Hampshire based company, which opened its doors to business in the summer, is on target for mortgage completions in excess of £20m this year, but is looking to grow to £100m in 2004 on the back of service levels they believe are markedly superior to that offered by other packagers.

The service-driven expansion follows market research conducted by the company among 300 intermediaries across the country that shows brokers dissatisfied with the service offered by some packagers.

Sue Cox, Business Development Manager at Bananas Inc, said: "We were surprised that a really high percentage identified low levels of service as a big issue for them. We had one broker who used a packager exclusively and took his business elsewhere because of poor service, but the packager never even contacted him to find out why."

"Packagers talk about procuration fees and large panels, but many have become too impersonal and don't deliver the service that brokers need."

Ms Cox added: "Brokers want quick response times and the ability to get through to their packager on the phone, or, if they have to leave a message, are contacted in a very short time. By offering this we know we will be able to rapidly build business."

The packager says that, unlike other companies, it will not allow expansion to jeopardise service delivery,

Bananas Inc is a subsidiary of established direct-to-consumer packager MDNationwide.
