NAEA welcomes Barker Review

"The NAEA welcomes Kate Barker's comments on housing supply and agrees that a massive increase of up to 140,000 new homes a year is required to help stabilise house prices.

"The proposals to introduce a development gains tax payable on granting of planning permission on landowners could force land into the hands of the bigger firms, from smaller builders who are key to the industry but who will find it harder to fund the tax up front.

"However raising the number of new homes is only part of the story. It is important that the infrastructure is in place to support the areas in which new properties are built, and therefore we support the recommendations made to reform the planning system."
