Mortgage fraudster claims she was “rail-roaded”

She was jailed for 15 months in March 2010 after admitting conspiracy to obtain money by deception.

Chapman however went to London’s Criminal Appeal Court claiming she was “rail-roaded”, being forced into pleading guilty and was “misadvised” by her then legal team.

Chapman’s former lawyers have wholly refuted the allegations.

Her appeal was dismissed by three judges who said there was no merit in her arguments. They also noted she continued to be represented by the same lawyers for 15 months after entering her guilty plea.

Chapman was involved in the fraud between 2005 and 2006 with her former partner, Anthony Gould and Alan Hill.

Judge Radford, one of the Appeal Court judges, said: “We are entirely satisfied that the plea of guilty was not in any way equivocal and note she retained the services of her legal team for 15 months after entering her plea.”
