MoneySpinners to raise £100,000 for charity

The group, collectively know as MoneySpinners, are made up of senior executives from the financial services industry who are aiming to cycle more than 9,300 miles collectively to raise over £100,000 for charity.

This will be the second MoneySpinners charity ride following the overwhelming success of 2009's event, where the group travelled from Lands End to John O'Groats, raising £150,000 for charity in the process.

This year's route will cover 584 miles, taking in three countries in just eight days. Starting in East Anglia, the riders will cycle west across England before taking on the undulating terrain of Wales. A boat crossing will transport the cyclists from Fishguard in Wales to Rosslare in the Republic of Ireland. From there they will cycle the breadth of Ireland until they reach its most westerly point at Dingle Bay, County Kerry.

MoneySpinner's nominated charity for 2010 is Macmillan Cancer Support. Macmillan improves the lives of people affected by the disease and the majority of the riders have been touched in some way by friends and family who have fought cancer.

First-time MoneySpinner rider, Alison Beech, business relationship director at Spicerhaart said: "I'm enormously excited about the trip and have been training for the last three months having invested in a new bike, which cost more than my first car!

“I supported the selection of Macmillan as the primary charity because not only is it a great cause, but this year alone, the financial services industry has lost several well-known figures to cancer.

“We shall finish the coast-to-coast the night before my 52nd birthday, so I shall plan to enjoy a seriously good red wine with dinner and hope I can stay awake long enough to finish the glass."
