Working for the bank for eight years, she was managing director of UK strategy, mergers and acquisitions.

Before that she oversaw the bank’s network strategy and operations, while she was responsible for the rebranding its 1,700 branch estate.

Peter Rollings, chief executive of Marsh & Parsons, said: “It is indicative of Marsh & Parsons’ direction that we have been able to attract an individual of Helen’s calibre to our senior management team.

“We have ambitious plans to keep growing our branch network, and Helen’s appointment will ensure we continue providing the best possible service for home buyers and sellers, landlords and tenants.

“She brings extensive experience of managing and overhauling some of the UK’s most well-known retail giants and I am confident that she can help take Marsh & Parsons to the next level, and further our high-street recognition.”

Marsh & Parsons is opening a Shoreditch office in mid-February having launched four branches in 2014.

Before she joined Barclays Sachdev spent five years as planning and design director at Tesco, where she worked developing its Express and Extra formats.

She started her career by working for more than a decade at Sainsbury’s, where she helped develop its Local branches.

Sachdev said: “It is an opportune time to be joining Marsh & Parsons and I am excited by its intentions to strengthen its reputation as London’s premier estate agency.

“It has long been established in London’s traditional prime heartland, but putting down roots in new, up and coming areas such as Camden and Shoreditch is an exciting new chapter for the brand.

“Marsh & Parsons has a long and proud history and while being respectful of these traditions, I will also be looking at ways that its name and branch network can stay relevant as the way people buy and sell property continues to evolve.”

She sits on the UK board of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants, where she acts as a coach and mentor to other female executives.
