Major national property conference comes to the north east

Keynote speakers will include:

Dr Julie Rugg from the University of York who will address the conference on the potential further contribution the private-rented sector could make to the housing mix.

Jim Vine from UK Housing Policy and Practice who will talk about the controversial area of migrant worker housing and other related issues.

Delegates can choose to attend a variety of workshops on everything from electrical safety in HMOs to tackling anti-social behaviour to the complicated issue of student accommodation. There will also be numerous opportunities for networking, sharing good practice and discussing new ways of overcoming housing challenges.

Richard Price, Director of Operations, National Landlords Association, commenting on the forthcoming conference, said: "HMOs are a notoriously complicated part of the sector but one which is essential for affordable housing. This major conference is an excellent opportunity to keep up with the latest responsibilities for landlords and local authorities."

Andrea Buse, Secretary, National HMO Network, said: "At a time when the Government are reviewing the role of the whole private-rented sector, the National HMO Conference provides an essential opportunity for practitioners to discuss the way forward for HMOs and their regulation."

An HMO is generally defined as any property occupied by more than one household and more than two people. It could include bedsits, shared houses and certain self-contained flats.
