Leeds volunteers tackle Hadrian’s Wall for charity

The ‘Hadrian’s Walkers’, who will travel from Wallsend to Bowness over three days, hope to raise £8,400 for the charity, or £100 for every mile.

The team has incorporated some fun into their arduous challenge by dressing up as Romans for their epic hike.

Trevor Garside, Leeds Building Society’s head of direct distribution, said: “Every year we undertake a charity challenge to raise money for a national charity.

“We have all been inspired by Stephen Sutton's story this year and we want to raise as much as we can for Teenage Cancer Trust.

“All our branches are joining in the fundraising effort with their own activities, and are also currently selling Teenage Cancer Trust rubber bracelets to try to increase the donations further.”

Heather Bowen, regional manager for Teenage Cancer Trust (Yorkshire), added: “This is a fantastic challenge, very hard work, but a total achievement for the Leeds Building Society team ‘Hadrian’s Walkers’.

“We rely on people taking part in events such as this, and organising their own events, to enable Teenage Cancer Trust to fund desperately needed services for young people with cancer.”
