Justice for financial adviser killed in pub brawl

24-year old Aaron Davies of Cwmbran, Torfaen has been jailed for three years after Cardiff Crown Court found him guilty in April of the manslaughter of financial adviser Gareth Davies of Llangibby, Monmouthshire.

The victim was just 26 when he was killed trying to break up a fight in a pub car park in October 2007.

The court heard that Davies tried to break up the brawl outside the John Fielding Wetherspoons pub in Cwmbran, Wales, but he was punched hard in the face "without provocation and for no reason at all".

The impact caused him to fall and crack his head on the surface of the car park. He died from his injuries two days later.

When Davies and his friends arrived at the pub, steelworker Aaron Davies was allegedly "spoiling for a fight" before he punched Gavin Davies. The court also heard that Davies had already punched three other men that evening.

The young adviser was out fundraising for his local football team with friends and was dressed as one of the stars of the 1980s film Ghostbusters the night of the struggle. His friends were dressed in various different fancy dress costumes for the evening out in Cwmbran.

The victim was described in court as "popular and well-liked by everybody he met". He was studying for financial adviser qualifications at HSBC.
