John Mawdsley returns to market as Omnii Solutions CEO

Mawdsley has been in the mortgage market for over 30 years and is best known for his most recent roles at The Mortgage Partnership and AMPD.

He started his career with building societies in the 70s and moved to centralised lending in the 80s, being part of the team that launched HMC in High Wycombe.

His decision to join Omnii – a data aggregator - was driven by his perception that the market needs a more holistic approach to mortgage risk. Mawdsley says he sees lots of opportunity to deliver a standardised approach to credit checking and money laundering compliance in the broker market, via distribution to networks.

He said: “How many cases are falling by the wayside because of insufficient customer information?”

Conversion rates are under pressure too according to Mawdsley, but comprehensive aggregation of anti money laundering, credit checking and electronic valuations data can help to improve brokers’ success rates, “significantly reducing their costs.”

Solent CEO Ian Balfour said: “Omnii could be a very sensible option”.

He added: “John’s vastly experienced and I’m sure he’ll bring a lot of stability and structure. Pulling together all the documentation lenders need on a borrower and property is something we’ve been doing since day one – the more you know about a borrower up front, the better.”

And Michael Bolton, European director of sales and marketing at Clayton Euro Risk, said: “With John’s considerable experience in the mortgage market he’s more than the right man for the job.

“Attitudes to mortgage risk are changing and both intermediaries and lenders will have to pay more attention in this area. Conversion rates are under pressure and anything that can reduce cost and improve success rates will be embraced with open arms.”

Mark Thelwall, Omnii chairman added: “We are delighted to have John on board and I look forward to working with him during the next stages of our development .”

Omnii was formed in 2007 by Nick Berry and Mike Sloan. The company launched its software offering at the end of 2009 with Trigoldcrystal.
