HIPs clarity issues ‘need to be resolved’

With HIPs set to launch on 1 June, Hamptons indicated that there was not enough clarity on the issue of HIPs, and how they would be implemented within the market.

Mark Anderson, managing director of UK residential at Hamptons International, said: “At the moment a vast improvement is needed. The implementation date is 1 June and no-one has any confidence in it.

“It is ridiculous that we are supposed to operate this scheme very shortly, but no one knows what they’re doing.”

However, with the launch of HIPs less than 100 days away, Mike Ockenden, director-general, at the Association of Home Information Pack Providers, said: “There is a lot of advice out there, with various courses and seminars being offered by our members as well as groups such as the National Association of Estate Agents and the Law Society. Those still burying their heads in the sand need to take action now. Whether they like it or not, HIPs will happen on 1 June and those who are not ready will struggle and find themselves falling behind.”
