Harpenden Building Society names new CEO

Harpenden Building Society has announced the appointment of Tracie Pearce (pictured) as its new chief executive officer.

Pearce, who succeeds the retiring Richard Doe after his two-and-a-half-year tenure, comes from Santander, where she had served as chief customer officer since 2021. Previously, she held the position of director of retail banking at HSBC and occupied senior roles at Nationwide Building Society.

Pearce began her career at Portman Building Society, moving to Nationwide Building Society following the merger of the two institutions. During her 19-year tenure in the mutual sector, she managed both the prime and specialist mortgage portfolios and the savings book.

“Tracie is a well-known and respected industry figure with retail financial services and has the skills and knowledge to lead the society through our next stage of growth,” said Nigel Boothroyd, chair of Harpenden Building Society.

“The experience she has gained in leading teams and delivering customer propositions at Santander, HSBC, Nationwide will be invaluable to us as we seek to grow our specialist lending proposition in the intermediary market, as well as providing value for our savings members.

“I would like to put on record our thanks to Richard for the last two and a half years and wish him a happy retirement.”

Commenting on her appointment, Pearce said she was excited to be returning to the mutual sector and to lead Harpenden Building Society as it continues to grow its lending and reputation for providing bespoke specialist mortgage solutions for intermediaries and their customers.

“Returning to the building society sector feels like coming home, especially after previously dedicating 19 years to helping members achieve their financial goals and homeownership,” she stated. “I am genuinely excited about the opportunity to leverage my experience to contribute positively to the society.

“I look forward to working together to drive growth and success, while further strengthening our ties with the local community and providing unwavering support to our valued members. When a broker has clients with a need for a specialist lender, I want Harpenden to be the first society they consider.”
