Hanley Economic adds non-executive director

Hanley Economic Building Society has announced that Martyn Hoccom (pictured) has joined its board as a non-executive director.

Hoccom, who has over 30 years of experience in the banking industry, will also assume a key position on the mutual’s risk committee.

An economics graduate of the University of Birmingham, Hoccom has spent most of his career working in the treasury and risk management areas of major banks. His most recent role was as group treasurer of First Abu Dhabi Bank. He has also held senior positions at RBS and Lloyds Bank.

Founded in 1854, Hanley Economic has over 20,000 members and seven branches in Biddulph, Cheadle, Hanley City Centre, Newcastle, Longton, Stone and at its Festival Park, Stoke on Trent headquarters.

“Despite recent economic challenges, our forward-thinking building society remains committed to improving both our business strategies and our approach to better serve and protect our members, intermediary partners, and local communities,” commented Mark Selby, chief executive at Hanley Economic Building Society.

“Martyn will undoubtedly prove to be an important addition to the board, and his vast experience from a treasury and risk management perspective will certainly offer some valuable insight for the senior management team to incorporate into our ongoing strategy.”
