A new study has revealed the best areas for new finance graduates looking for jobs in the finance sector, with Greater London taking the top spot.

A study by InvestinGoal, a comparison site, created an index that analysed nearly 9,000 finance sector job listings that were geared towards graduates.

“The study highlights diverse prospects for finance graduates across various counties in the UK. It uncovers distinctive patterns and dynamics, providing valuable insights into the varied economic landscapes and professional environments present in different areas,” said a spokesperson for InvestinGoal.

“The findings serve as a comprehensive guide for recent finance graduates, offering a broad understanding of the opportunities and nuances prevalent within the financial sector across the country.”

What were the best areas for finance graduates?

Greater London took first spot with an index score of 85.27 out of 100. It was the county that had the highest median wage nationwide (£46,500), which was 45% higher than the national average (£31,956). It also had the highest number of listings with 39 per 100,000 residents as well as the highest amount of unadjusted job listing figures at 3,433.

Aberdeenshire, Scotland came in second place with a score of 80.31 out of 100. Its median wage sat at £42,000, which was 30% higher than the national average. Stirling took third spot with a score of 73.01 out of 100 and a median wage of £35,000. The job availability for the area was 16 listings per 100,000 people, which was above the national average of 11 per 100,000.

The remaining areas that were part of the top 10 were Berkshire, Lothian, Bristol, Armagh, Dorset, Lanarkshire, and Wiltshire. Their scores were 72.23, 71.76, 71.57, 71.46, 70.01, 68.65, and 68.59, respectively.

The worst area in the UK for new finance graduates was Worcestershire with a score of 39.44 out of 100.

The data for the index was taken from nearly 9,000 job listings on Glassdoor, with counties that have less than 10 finance job listings omitted from the final ranking.
