Goldsmith Williams offers employees conveyancing training

Ten Goldsmith Williams employees have embarked on the training, conducted by two of the company’s senior managers in conveyancing: John Jones, a licensed conveyancer and a Fellow of the Institute of Legal Executives; and Marie Tracey, a qualified solicitor.

The firm’s CLC course trainees are due to qualify as licensed conveyancers in summer 2008. After successful completion of the course, the employees, as specialist property lawyers, will be able to deal with more detailed conveyancing queries, with their enhanced knowledge being of particular benefit to brokers, clients and colleagues.

Lorraine Allen, head of human resources at Goldsmith Williams, said: “We are very committed to our staff training. Career development is crucial to keep staff motivated and enthused and it is important to provide opportunities for promotion within the company.

“The transfer of knowledge and skills between staff is also key to ensuring that Goldsmith Williams provides the best service possible for clients. It is in everyone’s interests for us to continuously strive to improve and excel in what we do.”

Until 1987, all conveyancing was the sole responsibility of solicitors but, under current legislation, it is possible for non-solicitors to become Licensed Conveyancers by undertaking the CLC training. As well as organising the training and setting the exams for those wishing to become licensed conveyancers, the CLC issues annual licenses and regularly monitors the profession via its compliance department.

Edward Goldsmith, senior partner at Goldsmith Williams, added: “Goldsmith Williams recognises that the qualities we need from staff are sometimes not found in the traditional high street practice. Our employees need not only to be technically capable but also have customer services skills. We have found that the best way to maintain this culture is to train internally and that is why I am so delighted that we have a batch of truly committed, professionally trained conveyancers coming through who work in the unique Goldsmith Williams way.”
