FSA comments on packager regulation

Mandy Spink, head of mortgages at the FSA, admitted that it had looked again this year at whether to regulate packagers but had decided it was unnecessary.

Spink said: "It comes down to whether the packager has a contact with the consumer. If they don't it is still our view they do not need to be regulated.”

James Hall, sales director at Optoma, said: “We feel that it is crucial to meet high standards in the Packaging Industry and regulation may be a necessary step in the future but should not be rushed through. This period of time will allow for proper consultation to ensure that what develops is considered properly and benefits all parties concerned, especially the consumer.”
