First-time buyer numbers up 1.3% in London

There were some 11,510 new first-time buyer mortgages completed in London in the third quarter of 2019 - up 1.3% on the same quarter in 2018, according to the latest UK Finance figures.

Overallthere were 7,850 new homemover mortgages completed in London in the third quarter of 2019, 0.9% more than in the same quarter in 2018. There were 12,530 new homeowner remortgages completed in London in the third quarter of 2019, 14.8% fewer than in the same quarter in 2018.

On a broader basis there were 2,870 new homeowner remortgages completed in Northern Ireland in the third quarter of 2019, 21.6% more than in the same quarter in 2018.

Some 2,880 of those were first-time buyer mortgages whilst there were 1,880 new homemover mortgages completed in Northern Ireland in the third quarter of 2019, 2.6% fewer than in the same quarter in 2018.

Scotland saw a 1.6% boost in first-time buyers but homemover mortgages were down 1.8% quarter-on-quarter.

In the same period there were 5,010 new homeowner remortgages completed in Wales in the third quarter of 2019, 4.6% more than in the same quarter in 2018.
