EC warns that the UK will go into recession

The commission went on to say that recession also looks on the cards for some other european countries including Spain. Britain however will be one of the hardest hit with a fall in output of 0.2% in the third and fourth quarters of this year.

The growth forecast for the eurozone nations was cut from 1.7% to 1.3%. However, Jean-Claude Trichet, the president of the European Central Bank remained positive about the future saying: "we will have gradual recovery over the next years after the present depressed episode."
