Destination Santander

The gruelling 800-mile journey will start in London, going via Legal & General's head office in Kingswood, and finishes 10 days later in Santander, Spain.

The fundraising team includes key representatives from the financial services industry, including Thompson (director, mortgages at Legal & General) and John Phillips (financial services director at Kinleigh, Folkard & Hayward).

L&G’s Ben Thompson said: "We aim to raise some money for good causes and support Legal & General's corporate partner, Shelter, but we wanted to look for another way to do this other than run a marathon! Cycling 100 miles is the equivalent of running a marathon, so we are effectively completing eight marathons back-to-back! It's going to be tough, but we are training hard and preparing well despite inclement weather earlier in the year. We're aiming to raise £10,000 for Shelter and we're sure that we'll be able to achieve this if we can get the whole mortgage industry behind us."

John Phillips from Kinleigh, Folkard and Hayward said: "It sounds a bit of a cliché but it would be nice to give something back, we take for granted sometimes that there are other people who are less fortunate then ourselves. It is also a great personal challenge to ride over 800 miles in a 10 day period, we'll find it tough but reaching the end will be a great achievement."

Louise Parkes, Director of Fundraising at Shelter, said: "It's fantastic that staff from Legal & General are going to cycle from London to Spain to raise money for Shelter - it's a terrific challenge. All the money raised will go towards Shelter's vital work helping give thousands of homeless and badly housed families the chance of a brighter future."
