Consumers bypassed

If I were buying a house I would still wish to instruct my own surveyor to carry out the necessary survey – I would not trust one that was paid by the seller.

The point being that if I pay the surveyor I have the right to sue him – where do I stand if I just trust the HIP? I feel that all it would do is give more work for surveyors and not benefit the consumer at all, with the increased costs (expected to be around £1,000) would be passed on to the buyer by the purchaser. I am happy with the decision to make HCRs voluntary.
