Consultation starts on new mortgage advice qualifications

The Association of Mortgage Intermediaries (AMI) has criticised the length of time it, and the rest of the industry, has to respond, however it has praised the paper for addressing some of the weaknesses identified in current exam papers.

Responding to AMI’s concerns, Teresa Sayers, managing director of the SCFS, said: ‘The FSA has asked the Skills Council to take on a significant responsibility, and we take this role seriously. In order for us to meet our commitments, it has been necessary for us to set this four-week deadline for feedback – but it's worth noting that the industry has been consulted through this whole process. We aim to be transparent, and this is by no means the only opportunity the industry will have to share its concerns with us about the review as a whole.”

Commenting on the content of the consultation document, Chris Cummings, director of AMI, said: “We are pleased with some of the proposals, though we believe that aspects of the work-based assessment are not rigorous enough.”
